| FAQ - Hiring a Company |
| |
| |
How do I find a Home Improvement Professional?
Finding a Home Improvement Professional (HIP) to work on
your project requires time and effort. Before hiring a HIP,
make a list of things you want to know about each of them.
Below are some typical questions:
- How long have they been in business?
- Do they have insurance?
- Do they have a license? (Some trades don’t require a license.
Call your town’s building department for more information.)
This site provides the answers to those questions.
Read the company profile and the reviews provided.
The more information you have on your potential company,
the better you are prepared.

Do I have to pay to use the site?
The site is FREE to use. Our goal is to connect you to the
Home Improvement Professional (HIP) that is best suited
to help you with your home improvement projects.
Each HIP pays an annual fee to be registered on our site.
We feel you should not have to pay to find a HIP; after all, you
are spending money on your home improvement project.
We just ask that you write a review on the work performed.

How does the rating work?
Our rating system is based on a list of questions about the work performed.
Customers answer these questions with a scoring system of 1 through 5.
5 - Excellent
4 - Good
3 - Average
2 - Below Average
1 - Poor
We do not add up the scores to give an overall total, but we will give an
average mean score. We list the scores to each question because we want potential
customers, like you, to know how a company fares in each category.

Now that I have found my Home Improvement Professional, what’s next?
Now that you have done your research on our site and
selected a Home Improvement Professional, it’s time to
get a quote. Before you have someone come over and
look at the project, have a list of questions you may want to
ask. For example, if you are replacing your roof, ask how
long the shingles are expected to last? Building a new deck,
ask how often the wood needs to be stained?
|
| |
How much of a deposit is required?
When negotiating a price, some Home Improvement Professionals
may require an upfront deposit, but by law they may not ask for
more than one third of the total price. Always get a job quote in
writing as well as a receipt for any deposit paid.
|
| |
Can I review a Home Improvement Professional that is not listed?
You cannot review a Home Improvement Professional (HIP)
that is not listed on our site. However, if you feel a HIP has
done excellent work and you would like to give them credit,
send us an email.
We will contact them and inform them about your comments.
If they list with us, we will send you a $25 dollar Visa gift card.
